What Town Was ‘Twin Peaks’ Filmed In?

When “Twin Peaks” was first introduced in 1990, it was evident that David Lynch and Mark Frost had delivered a classic with this mystery drama. The original series aired for two seasons on ABC, concluding in 1991. As Entertainment Weekly reports, this original series was filmed mostly in Washington state. Small towns played a big part in the on-site production and many of the locales used for filming can still be visited today.

The feature film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” debuted in 1992 as a prequel, delving deep into Laura’s emotional final days. This release notably used many of the same filming locations as the original series, per Movie Locations.com. Though not a box office hit, the story was revived years later in the form of “Twin Peaks: The Return”. The limited series debuted in 2017 on Showtime and picks up 25 years after Laura’s murder, with Agent Cooper still fighting crime and dark forces. This was captured in some of the same Washington state locales. Some additional studio work was done in California, at studios in Van Nuys, per the Twin Peaks Blog.

Many “Twin Peaks” fans will remember the Double R Diner, where Agent Cooper would often frequent. The small-town eatery was called the Mar-T Café when the original “Twin Peaks” was being filmed. The location served as the setting for most of the diner scenes, with Agent Cooper’s cherry pie and “damn good coffee” becoming his famous order, per Entertainment Weekly.

Today, the diner is known as Twede’s Café. It has undergone several renovations and remains a go-to for fans looking to relive the nostalgia. Twede’s Café continues to offer menu items named after the series, including the famed cherry pie and the “Special Agent Combo.” It is located at 137 W North Bend Way, North Bend, Washington. This is nearly 30 miles east of Seattle and is easily accessible by car.

Key Scenes: The opening scene of “Twin Peaks” features a view of Snoqualmie Falls and the Salish Lodge. This served as the exterior for the fictional Great Northern Hotel in the series. It was also the backdrop for the arrival of Agent Cooper at the Great Northern Hotel to investigate Laura’s murder.
