Arielle and Steve didn’t wait long to embark on their honeymoon.
Just two days after their wedding, the Atlanta-based couple boarded a flight bound for the Maldives, a destination they had carefully chosen for what they hoped would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“We wanted something drop-dead gorgeous, relaxing and unforgettable,” Arielle says.
After narrowing it down to either Bora Bora or the Maldives, their final decision ultimately came down to proximity. But what sealed the deal was finding an all-inclusive resort that aligned with their budget-conscious mindset, even for a luxury destination known for its high price point.
Why They Chose The Maldives For Their Honeymoon

For Arielle and Steve, the Maldives represented a rare opportunity to splurge with intention.
The couple paid for both their wedding and honeymoon themselves, which made the decision even more meaningful.
“We’re both incredibly frugal,” Arielle says. “So when we do spend, we want it to feel worth it.”
They were drawn to the Maldives for its crystal-clear waters, serene atmosphere, and iconic overwater villas — all the elements of a honeymoon that feels both elevated and deeply relaxing.
Where They Stayed: Adaaran Prestige Water Villas

Adaaran Prestige Water Villas (7 Nights)
The couple spent their entire honeymoon at Adaaran Prestige Water Villas, an all-inclusive resort — a rarity in the Maldives — that offered both convenience and value.
Staying in a private villa perched over the water, the happy couple had direct access to the ocean along with panoramic views that met their every expectation.
“The water lived up to the hype,” Arielle says. “The villa was amazing, the food was top-notch, and the island itself was so clean and well-maintained.”
For a destination often associated with ultra-luxury price tags, the experience struck the perfect balance between indulgence and value.
What Made The Honeymoon So Special

For Arielle, one of the standout aspects of the trip was the feeling that they had made a smart, intentional investment in the experience.
“It was easily the most expensive trip we had taken at that point,” she says. “But it felt like we got incredible value for what we paid.”
Beyond the villa itself, the all-inclusive structure meant they could fully relax once they arrived.
As a couple that enjoys good food and drinks, not having to think about additional costs made the experience even more enjoyable.
The One Moment They’ll Never Forget

One of the most unforgettable parts of their honeymoon happened beneath the surface.
The couple spent time snorkeling in the Maldives’ famously clear waters, where they encountered a wide range of marine life.
“The diversity of sea life was spectacular,” Arielle remembers.
But one moment stood out in particular.
“There was a point where the sea floor just dropped off,” she says. “Looking into that underwater abyss was incredible.”
What Couples Should Know Before Booking The Maldives

While the Maldives is often associated with luxury, Arielle recommends doing thorough research — especially for couples who want to balance experience and cost.
Finding an all-inclusive resort made a major difference for them, particularly as travelers who enjoy cocktails, wine and dining experiences.
“We didn’t have to worry about paying for anything once we arrived,” she says.
Arielle also notes that the Maldives is not a nightlife destination.
“We’re party people, but we were okay with that because we knew what we were signing up for,” she adds.
Instead, the destination is best suited for couples looking for peace, relaxation and immersive natural beauty.
Where They’re Traveling Next

Next up for the couple is Turks and Caicos, along with a return trip to Portland, where they’re hoping to finally secure a reservation at the highly sought-after Black-owned restaurant Kann.
They also consider the Pacific Northwest one of their favorite regions they’ve explored together.
How Travel Has Shaped Their Relationship

Travel has always been a central part of Arielle and Steve’s connection.
Their first trip together was to Disney World, and since then, travel has remained one of the ways they stay connected.
“Getting to experience something new with someone you love and respect is a great joy,” Arielle says.
From food and drinks to shared experiences, travel allows them to connect, unwind, and create lasting memories together.
Arielle and Steve’s honeymoon wasn’t just about the destination; it was about making a thoughtful, meaningful investment in an experience they’ll carry with them for years to come.
