Last month, Alaskan Dream Cruises abruptly announced its closure and the cancellation of all its future sailings.
The Sitka-based cruise line announced the news on its website in early February. Alaskan Dream Cruises shared that, after a 15-year run, “effective immediately,” it is ceasing operations and canceling all scheduled sailings.
The company warmly thanked its guests and anyone else who contributed to its growth.
“Since 2011, Alaskan Dream Cruises has had the privilege of sharing the wonders of Alaska and the richness of our Alaska Native heritage with incredible guests from across the globe. It has been an equal honor to work alongside extraordinary communities, partners, and crew,” the company said. “We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us over the past 15 years. Thank you for the lasting relationships we’ve built and for allowing us to be a part of your Alaskan stories.”
“Thank you again for being part of the Alaskan Dream Cruises family. The memories of exploring ‘True Alaska’ alongside you will last a lifetime,” the company’s homepage further states.
What Else Is There To Know About Alaskan Dream Cruises’ Closure?
The company sent out information to travelers and travel agents with existing cruise reservations. The cruise line said it followed up via email “regarding next steps and refunds.” However, anyone with further questions is encouraged to contact them via email or phone.
On Yelp, the company boasts mainly glowing reviews. Previous guests gushed over their experiences, noting that the small-vessel voyages made for intimate sailings and memorable moments. In particular, people praised the breathtaking wildlife, glacier, and landscape views, as well as the good food and the crew’s hospitality and knowledge. Moreover, several noted how informative the experience was regarding Native Alaskan and Tlingit culture.
Alaskan Dream Cruises was a part of Allen Marine Tours, an excursion operator founded in 1970 that is family and Alaska Native-owned.
In a statement shared by The Independent, Allen Marine Tours owner Jamey Cagle gave insight into Alaskan Dream Cruises’ closure. He said, “This decision was intentional and necessary.”
“After careful evaluation of our long-term objectives, we determined that concluding cruise operations allows us to responsibly focus our resources where they will have the greatest impact,” he added.
Elsewhere, Allen Marine Tours spokesperson Zak Kirkpatrick told the Daily Sitka Sentinel that the company will continue offering tours and being a leader in Alaskan marine tourism.
“This chapter is closing and that’s always tough, and a little nostalgic,” said Kirkpatrick of Alaskan Dream Cruises. “But there are many, many more incredible chapters to come in the book of Allen Marine. We’ve been around 50 years and are excited to see what the next 50 bring.”
